Masonic Charity Fund (MCF) in coLlaboration with Reading Edge Academy

The Masonic Charity Fund (MCF) is carrying out a Joy of Reading Project with disadvantaged children in several Group Representation Constituencies (GRC) in Singapore in collaboration with Reading Edge Academy Pte Ltd and the GRCs. As part of this project, MCF provides a book hamper to every primary school child while Reading Edge Academy Pte Ltd carries out workshops with children, parents and volunteers on the benefits of reading for pleasure and how to nurture a love for reading among the kids which can be a real game changer in their children’s academic performance. After the initial workshop, volunteers are trained and resourced to continue engaging these children with books and alongside these volunteers, Reading Edge Academy carries out monthly story book reading aloud sessions in the GRC main library for a duration of at least 6 months. The volunteers who are carrying out the interactive reading aloud sessions in libraries are Dr. Chitra Shegar, Aditya Gopal, Deepthi Aditya, and Keshav Anand Sekar. This inaugural project was carried out in Nee Soon GRC in 2022 benefitting 500 low SES children. The next constituency that benefited from this project was Bricklands Constituency benefitting about 100 primary school students. More constituencies are coming on board this project this year.
